So they learn the hard way — or they don't, and the business closes. This is the course that teaches you the money side before it becomes the thing that decides whether you're still here next year.

In my 15+ years of accounting work — running my firm, Nerdy Number Lovers, and before that working as a government tax auditor — I have seen this play out more times than I want to count.
The business is generating revenue. Sometimes good revenue. But somewhere along the way, the owner never learned how the money actually works in a business. Nobody taught them, so they figured it out as they went. They got thrown to the wolves the way most of us do.
Then something breaks. A tax bill they didn't see coming. A slow month they couldn't survive because there was no cash reserve. A bookkeeper they hired offshore for $5/hr who made such a mess that by the time it came to me, the cleanup cost more than doing it right would have.
That's the part nobody tells you when you start a business: the money side isn't optional. You can ignore it for a while, but the math doesn't go away. It just compounds, quietly, until it becomes the thing that decides whether your business is still here next year.
In the years I spent auditing, and the years I've spent cleaning up after other people's bookkeeping, I keep seeing the same handful of things take people down.
Personal and business money mixed in one account. I've sat across from clients during audits and asked them to explain what a purchase on their personal card was for. When you commingle, you also lose the legal protection your LLC or corporation was supposed to give you — the entity stops being separate, because you're not treating it as separate.
Mailerlite, Convertkit, Kajabi, Asana, Clickup, Notion, six course platforms — half of them paid for, none actually being used, all auto-renewing every month. Most clients I work with are paying for at least one thing they completely forgot about.
I've done so many cleanup jobs on books done by someone charging less than minimum wage. Bookkeeping is similar country to country, but tax law isn't — and the education of the person doing the work matters way more than the hourly rate. Trying to save money on bookkeeping almost always costs you more later.
A lot of owners start the business to pay themselves better than a corporate job would — then never actually pay themselves. They take money out when their personal account gets low. No regular paycheck, no plan. Eventually they wonder why running a business feels like the worst job they've ever had.
Because the bookkeeping isn't done, or it's done wrong, or there's no plan for setting tax money aside. Then April hits and there's a five-figure bill nobody planned for.
These aren't unusual. These are most of the calls I get.
I'm Clarissa Wilson. I have three accounting degrees, 15+ years of accounting experience, and I spent six years as a government tax auditor — four of those years specifically in sales tax auditing. I now own and run Nerdy Number Lovers, where I handle bookkeeping, CFO work, and tax planning for small business owners every day.
This course is the thing I've wished I could hand my clients before they ever became my clients. It's the stuff I find myself explaining over and over on calls — except now it's in one place, organized in the order you actually need to learn it, with workbook exercises so you don't just learn the concepts but actually apply them to your business.
My whole mission, since I started Nerdy Number Lovers, has been to make this part of business as straightforward as possible for the people running it. Because the money is the lifeblood of your business. The better you handle it, the better the business is going to be. That's not a motivational line — that's just how it works.
Seven core modules, plus bonuses. Lifetime access. A workbook to walk through alongside the lessons.
Business bank accounts, separating personal from business, choosing bookkeeping software (and the one I steer clients away from — and why), organizing your receipts so an auditor can actually find them, and the basics of tax compliance.
How to actually pay yourself whether you're a sole prop, LLC, or S Corp; how to figure out a number that works for you; the S Corp tax "savings" myth (it isn't really savings); and how to plan for the taxes you owe — federal, state, self-employment, the whole stack.
The mental side of this — shame, guilt, what you were and weren't taught about money, and the habits that keep your business out of the messes I just described.
How money actually flows in and out, how to build a cash flow plan, and how to get out of the paycheck-to-paycheck cycle most businesses get stuck in.
How to actually read your Profit and Loss, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Statement — not theoretically, but for your business. Plus hiring and working with accountants and bookkeepers, and what to ask before you hire one.
Building a budget that fits your business, finding your breakeven number, estimating income, and building a real emergency fund so a bad month doesn't end the business.
How to actually use your numbers to make decisions — when to raise prices, when to hire, when to invest, when to pull back. The monthly money date routine I use with myself and my clients.
When debt is a useful tool and when it isn't, how to think about paying it off, and how to keep new debt from sneaking up on you.
A simple, repeatable one-page view of your business numbers so you stop having to dig through reports to know how you're doing.
How to price so the numbers actually work — covering your costs, your time, and the profit the business needs to survive.
One payment, lifetime access. No upsells, no payment plans gated behind extra fees, no surprise add-ons.
Enroll now for $100Instant, lifetime accessWhy it's $100 right now: I went back through this whole course and I honestly believe it's worth $200 — that's what the one-on-one version of this costs many times over. So over the next year I'm raising the price back up to $200, a little at a time. $100 is the lowest it will ever be. Whatever you pay today is the price you lock in — and you get every future update for free.
Lifetime access. You buy it once and have it forever — including any future updates I make to the material. Work through it as fast or as slowly as you want, and come back to lessons as your business grows. I add things over time as I get questions from students, so the course you have a year from now will be a little bigger than the one you have today.
Yes. This course is built for business owners, not accountants. There's almost no math in it — your software or your spreadsheet does the arithmetic. The hard part of managing the money in your business isn't the math. It's knowing what to set up, what to look at, and what your numbers are telling you. That's what I'm teaching.
Yes, and honestly this is when I'd most want you to take it. Most of my cleanup work is for clients who didn't set things up right at the beginning and only realized two or three years in that something was off. Setting it up correctly the first time is so much easier — and cheaper — than fixing it later.
Absolutely. This course will make you a much better client for them. You'll understand what your reports are saying, know what to ask, and catch things that aren't right before they become expensive problems. I've had clients tell me that taking this course was the first time they ever felt like they understood what I was talking about on our calls.
No. This is a course about understanding the money in your business — not about clicking through a specific piece of software. I touch on the differences between QuickBooks, Xero, spreadsheets, and a few other options in Module 1, but I'm not teaching you how to use any of them. (I do have a separate Bookkeeping Toolkit that goes deeper on software setup, if that's what you're looking for.)
We talk about this in Module 1. The short version: I personally recommend against Wave for security reasons. It's bookkeeping software you connect your bank account to, and because it's free, it doesn't have the same level of bank encryption and protection the paid software has. You're exposing your bank information in a way you wouldn't be on a paid product. I think the few dollars a month for a paid option is worth it — and if it isn't, a spreadsheet built by an accountant is a safer free option than Wave.
No. You'll need a way to take notes and a way to fill in the workbook (pen and paper, a PDF reader, whatever you like). That's it.
If you need one-on-one help, I offer student-rate consultations and a monthly support membership called Accountant in Your Pocket. Both are linked inside the course. But the course itself is designed to stand on its own — you shouldn't need additional support to work through it.
That depends on you. If you actually do the workbook exercises and set up the systems I walk you through, you'll feel more in control of your business money within a few weeks. The real change shows up over the next year — the first tax season where you're not panicking, the first slow month where you don't run out of cash, the first time you make a hiring decision and actually know whether you can afford it.
Because you get instant access to the full course the moment you buy it, all sales are final. This is standard for digital courses — once you have the content, it's not something I can take back. That said, if you go through the course and feel like you genuinely didn't get the value I'm promising, hit reply and tell me. I'll hear you out. I'd rather know what didn't work for you than pretend everything is fine.
Yes. Continuing education for your business is a legitimate business expense. Save the receipt in your Expenses folder (you'll learn the folder structure in Module 1) and code it appropriately in your bookkeeping.
You probably already know whether this is something you need.
Most of the business owners I work with one-on-one are paying me hundreds of dollars an hour for what's mostly in this course. If you'd rather work through it yourself, on your own time, this is that version — and right now it's $100, before the price starts climbing back to $200.
